Indian summer brings with it the delights of arguably the most loved fruit in the world, mango. These juicy fruits bring the much needed respite from the simmering Indian summer heat. Indian summers would be intolerable without these sweet, juicy delights. Though Indians have been enjoying these fruits for thousands of years, the western world has come to savour them only a few hundred years back. We know that Indians would want these fruits whereever they might be. So, here they are. We have tried to bring the best mangoes at the lowest prices we could.
Widely regarded as the tastiest of mangoes, Alphonso mangoes have unmatched sweetness and flavour. Alphonso mangoes are very popular even among non-Indians. The bright golden yellow color with a hint of red raises expectations and it's rich, creamy taste does not disappoint.
Badami or Banginapalli is named after a town in Andhra Pradesh, India. This variety is generally known as The King of Mangoes. These mangoes have clear, golden yellow edible skin. The pulp is firm, fibreless and yellow with sweet taste. They weigh around 400 gms on average.
Kesar or Gir Kesar grows in the foothills of Girnar in India. The bright orange pulp is it's distince feature. Kesar is among the most expensive varieties of mangoes and is available in the market in April. Gir Kesar mango was given the Geographical Indication status in 2011.
Rajapuri mangoes are among the largest mango varieties. These mangoes have clear and smooth yellow, orange and red skin. A rajapuri mango can weigh between 500 gms and 1 kg, smaller sizes being sweeter. The flesh is smooth, tender and fibreless. Rajapuri is the preferred mango variety in Europe.
